Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
I think there were some prophetic voices that have warned us about the coming of the Homosexual and Lesbian Movement (HLM) to Ethiopia. Many of us were reluctant( some of us said it is a western problem) . We haven’t prepared ourselves for theological, pastoral response. When they knock at our door we screamed. We were caught off guard. We reacted. That shouldn’t have been the case. We could have prepared before hand. I believe it is utterly impossible to heal our nation of the disasters of HLM. Even few conferences, prayer and fasting wont do that. We should respond as anyone would respond. We need to take time to prayerfully reflect on the netire phenomenon. We need to put the political (i.e the threats of westerners to choose between money and morality) and cultural context and the victims (THEY ARE AMONG US) into consideration. we need to ask the following questions:
1. What is a pastoral response to the Homosexuals that are among us?
2. Is homosexuality the “king” of sins ?
3. Is our response biblical founded or cultural bounded and reactive?
4. How Should we educate our young once to handle this issue?
I am always “scared” of “yezemecha sera” . Our effort should be goal oriented and God glorifying.
